Ski boot size chart & calculator

Ski boots use mondopoint sizing, which is your foot length in centimeters. Stand on a piece of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure. A 27 cm foot is a mondo 27.0, which is about a US men's 9 or US women's 10.

How to measure your feet for ski boots

  1. Put a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall.
  2. Stand on it in a thin ski sock with your heel touching the wall and your weight on that foot.
  3. Mark the tip of your longest toe and measure from the wall in centimeters.
  4. Measure both feet and use the longer one. That's your mondopoint size.

How a ski boot should fit

  • Standing straight: your toes lightly touch the front of the liner.
  • Flexed into a ski stance: your toes pull back slightly and your heel stays down.
  • Shell check: with the liner out, you should fit about one to two fingers (1.5–2 cm) behind your heel. More than that and the boot is too big.
  • No pain points: snug everywhere is right; sharp pressure on one spot is a fit problem a boot fitter can usually fix.

Liners pack out after a few days of skiing, so a boot that feels a little too snug in the shop usually ends up right. A boot that feels comfortable like a sneaker will likely end up too big.

Snowboard boots are different

Snowboard boots use regular US shoe sizes and usually fit true to size or a half size down. Your boot size also sets your board width; the snowboard size calculator checks both.

Ski boot sizing FAQ

How do I find my ski boot size?

Ski boots use mondopoint sizing, which is your foot length in centimeters. Stand on a piece of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure. A 27 cm foot is a mondo 27.0, which is about a US men's 9 or US women's 10.

How do I convert my shoe size to a ski boot size?

As a rule of thumb, add 18 to your US men's shoe size or 17 to your US women's shoe size to get mondopoint. A US men's 10 is about mondo 28.0, and a US women's 8 is about mondo 25.0. Measuring your foot is more accurate than converting.

Should ski boots be a size smaller than shoes?

Ski boots should fit snugger than shoes. Many skiers end up in a boot about the same as or a half size below their foot length. In a new boot your toes should just touch the front when standing straight and pull back slightly when you flex forward into skiing position.

What does ski boot flex mean?

Flex is how stiff the boot is when you lean forward. Lower numbers are softer and more forgiving; higher numbers are stiffer and more responsive. Beginners usually ski 60 to 80 flex (men's) or 50 to 70 (women's); experts often ski 120 or more.

Why are 26.0 and 26.5 the same boot?

Most ski boots come in full-size shells, so the 26.0 and 26.5 share the same plastic shell. The half size changes the liner or footbed, not the shell length. That's why a shell fit matters more than the number on the box.
